A judicial election is the process where citizens democratically elected the members of its federal judiciary branch, from the Supreme Court justice level to the district court judge level. Traditionally, judiciary members are appointed.

On October 1, 2025, the federal government of the United States entered a shutdown at midnight EDT after the U.S. Congress failed to pass appropriations legislation for the 2026 fiscal year, which began that day. The shutdown has continued for 43 days as Congress has been unable to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government. Senate Democrats opposed the Republican appropriations bill because it did not include an extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies previously extended by the Inflation Reduction Act. On Nov 12, eight members of the Democratic caucus has voted to approve the bill whereby the appropriations bill now moves from the Senate into the House of Representatives for approval, ending the government shutdown.
